Too good to pass up....

Local high school students try their best at the Nail Driving Contest offered at the Opportunity Showcase at the Regional High Tech Center. Call 627-4636 to register for Building Construction classes in the Spring.

Beautiful Days on Campus...

I think both the students and myself were thankful to be in the construction industry this week. With the leaves all around us and the temperatures as good as they get we enjoyed a week of progress on the Research Demonstration house. Most of the students are becoming quite adept at block work. You can see in the first picture that progress is being made, all of the 16 piers are out of the ground and the students are working on the larger portions of block that will anchor our house to the slope.

Sealed Crawlspace Habitat Home

Today students from the construction program stayed in out of the rain by working with Habitat for Humanity creating a Sealed crawlspace for one of the homes in the Barefoot Ridge Community. The students have been active in many portions of the construction and working in the crawl was another opportunity for them to contribute to the community and learn a new construction process. Check out the many pictures. The students do excellent work!

Research Demonstration House work continued...

Construction three students set down their tools and used brute force and combined manpower to push, pull, drag, force and balance the new Kiosk into place at the house site. The kiosk was removed from a different location on campus and now will serve a nice job on the site as the construction continues to take place. Many thanks to Cody Hyatt of the Arboretum for saving the kiosk for us.

Back to the Block

Students of the program continue to press on during the masonry phase of construction at the Research Demonstration house. Christine "Critter" Morrow has led the charge by ensuring that the block is being put in the proper places. Luke Peterson is shown adding the proper amount of Portland to the mixer. We hope to complete most of the block work in the next weeks.
